Spring Macaroon: Card

Howdy/Welcome.  I created a card earlier today, to show how to add machine stitching to your card, without the stitches seen on the inside of card, HERE.  Anyways, I stopped by some favorite (new and old) challenge sites, to give me a starting point, and I have to say, I'm pretty happy with how my card turned out!  

The first challenge site I visited was, Scrap Magic [No.16 Spring].  This is an old favorite.  I don't always play along in their challenges, but I just love looking at what the design team creates.  Very inspirational, and very creative!   This challenge site, creates a mood board, they give you primary colors and mandatory elements.

The primary colors: Turquoise and Pink.  Mandatory elements: rose/dessert, and delicate work.  Please be aware that this challenge site is in Russian.  They do provide a translate button.

The second challenge site that I visited was Retro Sketch Challenge [#203].  This is another 'old' favorite.  I just love their sketches!  They are super easy to work with, and the design team is sure to inspire you to play along.

My card was selected as the Retro Sketch Challenge Rock Star!  Super happy and excited!  I'll be posting my 'award' on my Awards page {smile}  I just can't stop smiling!

And finally, a 'new' favorite challenge site: Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge [#135 - Celebrate]. I had stumbled upon this challenge site while visiting a blog.  And I was intrigued as to what this site was about.  And well, I think you can figure it out too - Ribbon.  And I love ribbon! so I played along in one of their past recent challenges, and stopped by again, yesterday.  You will be inspired by their design team, and their wonderfully creative challenges.  Their current challenge: Celebrate!  Create a paper craft or project showcasing this theme (birthday, anniversary, wedding, baby, etc) and make sure you use ribbon or trim on your craft!

here is what I made:

Recipe:  I used Lagoon card stock by Stampin' Up! for the card base.  And this card is a bit 'large'.  It measures 4 1/4" x 6".  I believe it is considered a A6 size card.  I am really loving this larger size.  The first matt is Mint Macaroon card stock by Stampin' Up!.  I just love how those two colors match the two shades of turquoise macaroons on the pattern paper!  

I took a piece (3 3/4" x 5 1/2") of whisper white card stock by Stampin' Up! to use as my 'base' for the focal piece.  I cut two strips (1" x 12") of different pattern paper by Authentique, Infused.  I selected the floral pattern paper and the macaron pattern paper.  I tore the ends of the pattern paper strips to add 'interest'.   

I hand stamped the sentiment in Soft Suede classic ink by Stampin' Up!.  I used a new stamp set: Birthday Blossoms.  I just love the simple, cursive font of this sentiment.

I added a bright pink seam binding, and fancy, white crochet trim.  I did a simple machine stitch to attach the seam binding and crochet trim to the front of the card.  And then, I added a simple border stitch around the top of the card.  

I added a journalling card to a different piece of pattern paper (mint stripe) from the Infused collection by Authentique.  I added foam tape to the back of this journalling card.

I tied a triple loop bow with the bright pink seam binding, and adhered it to the front of the card with hot glue.

I added a collection of marshmallow sequins to the bottom of the card.  I didn't want to distract the eye from the beauty of this card, celebrating a birthday!

Tag of Faith Card

Howdy!  This is my second post for today.  [previous post is my Tuesday tutorial segment HERE].   Today's tutorial was on a technique called water color wash.  I showed how to do this technique with a tag.  And well, I added the tag to a hand made, machine stitched greeting card. {smile}

I am entering this card in two challenges: a scripture theme challenge, and an element theme challenge.

Let's start with a one of my favorite challenge sites:  Word Art Wednesday #219.  This challenge site is faith based - this means that they provide you with a scripture for inspiration.  The lovely ladies on their design team, will certainly inspire you with their creativity!   The theme for this current challenge is 'anything goes', just make sure your entry is family friendly.

The other challenge site I am playing with has been one of my favorites for several years.  I have been playing along since I started my blog.  {smile}  Just Us GirlS Challenge #330.  Their current challenge is  trend week - tag.  And who doesn't love tags?  Their design team will inspire you, that's a guarantee!  

so without further ado, here is my card:

I just love the angle of this photograph!  The closeness, shows the machine stitching and the delicate mint lace trim.  The tag was color washed with liquid re-inkers.  [tutorial HERE]

Recipe:  I used Crisp Cantaloupe card stock, by Stampin' Up! for the card base.  I just love the soft coral color.  {smile}  I matted this beautiful vintage looking floral pattern paper by Authentique onto Mint Macaroon card stock, by Stampin' Up!.  I machine stitched the floral pattern paper and mint card stock together.  I did a purposeful sloppy double border with my sewing machine.  

I machine stitched the tea stained cotton trim and mint lace trim to the card front.  Then I machine stitched the vanilla seam binding to the card front.  

I tied some coral-colored ribbon and thin crochet trim to the top of the tag, that I washed with water colors.   The tag is adhered to the card front with foam tape.

I tied a double loop bow with the vanilla seam binding, and adhered to the front of the card.  I tucked-in a aqua mist vintage button, to help repeat the mint color.

A Sweet Card For You

Howdy!  Well, don't fret, I don't have another gift bag to share with you {smile}.  I changed gears for a bit.  The switch up helps me re-evaluate what I'm working on.  And the change of focus, actually helps get stuff done, and the creativity can flow easier, or at least for me.
I stopped by Mojo Monday to see what their current sketch looks like.  And boy oh boy, does that design team come up with some fantastic sketches!

I have to admit, when I saw the break between panels, I was a bit stumped.  But, look what I made!

I did stay with the 'tall & skinny' sketch.  This finished card measures 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".    And the recipe:  I started with Mint Macaroon card stock by Stampin' Up!.  I used three different pattern papers from Authentique 'Infusion' collection.  The black text is the back/reverse side of the macaroon pattern paper.

I adhered the macaroon and floral pattern papers to a matt of mint macaroni card stock.  I added machine stitching to this piece, to add a little homespun touch.  {smile}

I added the scallop piece, where the break is in the panels.  

I added a dark pink paper blossom to the top of this main panel piece.  I added two leaves to the blossom in place of the banner pieces.  I wanted a little more sparkle, so I added a 'ribbon end' piece cut with silver glitter paper.  

I changed the small square with a 2" circle.  I also added my sentiment to the circle piece.  I stamped a sentiment from the Timeless Love stamp set, by Stampin' Up! in Basic Black archival ink.  I don't own a 2 1/4" circle punch, so I simply added the sentiment circle to a piece of mint macaroon card stock and hand cut the circle.  I used a piece of sand paper to smooth out the rough uneven edges.  I adhered the circle to the front of the card with foam tape.

And to add a little pizzazz, I added a trio of marshmallow sequins to the card front.

This card will be in the mail tomorrow for a friend (Cathy).  I've been thinking of her lately, and hope all is well.  And this is the best kind of snail mail to receive! {smile}

More Holiday Gift Card Holders

Howdy! well, I finished a few more of the traditional colored holiday gift card holders.  I am running out the door to head into work, but I wanted to share another photo.  I am still using the new Tidings collection from Authentique for these.  I'm happy with how they turned out.  {smile}

Authentique: Tidings

I used Stampin' Up! card stock as the base.  I just love the heavy weight of this card stock.  And the colors are just gorgeous in real life.  {smile}  I added burlap ribbon, cotton ribbon, crochet trim and gold cord to the covers.  I found a few stag silhouettes in my stash, and added those, too.   I made a few tags, and added them randomly to the finished holders.  

I purposefully made some 'flat' and some bulky.  I made some 'flat' ones if you need to mail one, the postage won't be expensive, and they will slide nicely in a card.  Or if the gift card holder is the 'gift' the bulky ones are perfect for a box.  Think of it as a treasure in a treasure.  {smile}

Vintage Winter Treasure Tin

Welcome!  I was surfing the internet, and stumbled upon two new challenge sites, that I should play along with.  I say 'should' because I need to get more holiday crafts completed.  

I stopped @ the Papertake Weekly Challenge.  They have a new challenge, titled: it will soon be here: Christmas!

I also stopped by A Snowflake Promise challenge site.  Their current challenge is: winter/Christmas.

here is what I made:

I have really loved decorating these blank tins.  {smile}  I first paint the tins with chalk paint, then distress with various sand papers, and finally seal the tin surface.  I wanted to make some tins that were event specific.  And I had some scrap pieces of this beautiful winter holiday pattern paper from Authentique.  {smile}

I distressed the pattern papers, too.  I layered some of the papers, and added some machine stitching.  

This blank tin measures approximate 3 3/4" x 2 1/4".

Pretty Pink Bags

Howdy, and welcome!  I am popping in real quick, to share with you some treat bags I made with some new pattern paper from Authentique: Legacy Collection.  These little bags will hold party favors for the High Tea I am hosting at my house next week.  I made four sets of these bags.  Each set of three uses different papers.  I'll share photos of the other bags soon.  {smile}

Pink Pirouette card stock makes the bag front and back panels.  I used the For a Friend Occasion stamp set by CTMH, for the 'label'.  I used the same 'label' of each of the bags.  I heat embossed it with antique gold embossing powder.  

I decorated each bag a little different, with paper blossoms, pearls, vintage buttons, crochet trim and a pink paper doily.

Foot Loose, Noted

Welcome.  I'm still crafting with supplies I have on hand.  While I was looking through my scrap box, in the search of pattern papers to use in my altered, decorated tins, I found these beautiful aqua blue pattern papers.  I need at least one scrap strip 1" x 12", for my tins.  These beautiful aqua pattern paper scraps weren't the length that I was looking for.  But they are beautiful!  So, I looked through other my other supplies, and I found a mini composition notebook that I could alter and decorate. {score!}
So, I am entering my little notebook in two current challenges:  Brown Sugar Challenge and Crafts 4 Eternity.  Both of these challenge sites, have an anything goes challenge going on.  For great inspiration, and some very clever crafting, PLEASE stop by both of these challenge sites.  You WILL be inspired!

I used some 'old' Authentique pattern papers.  The inside of the notebook is lined with the aqua and black polka dot pattern paper, that I used on the inside of the pen barrel.

I kept the cover of this notebook fairly flat, because these little gems are a favorite to add to a handbag or back pack.  And yeah, I added machine stitching!

Lately, I have been obsessed with cotton trim along one side, or to help 'hide' a seam.  The focal panel on the front of this little notebook, is actually a journalling block.  I trimmed it down to be better proportioned to the cover, and to fit inside the machine stitching.  I really loved the splashes of yellow throughout this pattern paper collection.  So, I made sure I added yellow accents: fabric floral trim, and papaya satin ribbon (by Amuse Studios).

Happiness Cone

Welcome.  It seems that I keep forgetting to post some of my crafts here.  So, I won't keep apologizing.  YOU are important.  I'll work harder at getting items photographed during the week, and getting some eye candy posted on days other than saturday/sunday.

I made another Tussie Mussie last weekend.  And, well, as you already read, it didn't get photographed.  {frown}.  Until today!  

I always have fun making these little treasures.  {smile}  When I say 'little' I mean little.  They measure roughly 5" tall, and 2" wide (at the top). And one of the best parts, is that you can basically use your scraps to make these.  So, it's always fun to use those little hoarded pieces of pattern paper to make one more beautiful paper craft.  

And while figuring out how to photograph this little cutie, I had a wonderful (to me) idea for another project.  I will be making a few purchases in town today/tomorrow to get the needed supplies, and then watch out!  I plan on making a larger version of a tussie mussie for my craft table, for craft fairs. I'll give you a little teaser!  I currently use a mercury glass vessel to hold mints, for my customers or passers by, to have a free mint while they stop and take a look at my products.  But, what I'm thinking is, to make a beautiful larger Tussie Mussie to hold the mints. {smile}  How fabulous would that be?  I think wonderful!  

Sweet Vintage, Card

Howdy! and welcome to my little slice of blog-land.  Grab yourself a cup of joe, tea, or any other thirst quenching beverage, sit a spell, and have a look around.  I hope I inspire you, and give you something pretty to look at {smile}.  Life here in the country is good.  

As I said earlier, I really want to get some crafting done to participate in a few challenges.  I find it easier to double a few of my favorite challenge sites together.  More bang for my preverbal buck.

Our first stop is a recent favorite of mine:  the Card Concept.  One of my favorite things about this challenge site is that they give you some of the most beautiful inspirational photos to work from, and the other is that they welcome all crafting styles!  Me, I'm mostly shabby chic, with a touch of vintage.  So, it's always nice to feel welcome.  And don't let me forget about the design team samples.  Holy smokes, can these ladies craft.  Beautiful work in various styles, using various products.

The instant I saw this photo, I thought, 'Mother's Day'.  The texture in the pitcher and the various blossoms really shine in this inspirational photo.

My second stop, is a staple of my crafting sketches:  Mojo Monday.  The number one reason why I love this sketch challenge site, is their user friendly sketches.  They have very workable sketches, that just about everyone can play along with.  {love it}

The hanging piece to me looks like a tag.  And the band at the bottom looks like trim!  So, without further ado, here is what I crafted:

Before we start, I just wanted to say, 'thank you' to my family, friends, and my followers for all of your support in my endeavor to find happiness in playing with paper.  I am truly grateful that you have embraced this passion of mine, and don't give me grief over the purchase of one more sheet of pattern paper, or the idea that just one type of trim is not enough to own.  I know I am blessed.  And I thank the Lord every chance I get.  But it is this true acceptance from all of YOU, who keep this drive, this willingness to craft, this love of sharing going.  THANK YOU!

The recipe:  I started my card, just like every other card I make with Stampin' Up! card stock.  This card stock is heavy weight, smooth, and just gorgeous!  Crumb cake is the kraft color I am working with today.  Lovely stuff!

The main panel is whisper white card stock.  I ran it through my vintage wall paper embossing folder.    (love the design on the pitcher in the inspirational photo)  Matted it onto a scrap piece of blossom blush card stock (retired).  I cut a strip of floral pattern paper from the Grace collection by Authentique.  I hand cut a flag end.  Then I ran it through my sewing machine to give it several passes of a simple border.  (I selected this pattern paper, because of the various blossom in the inspirational photo.)

Now, the focal piece.  I started with a canvas tag.  I had a few different trim pieces sitting on my crafting table (aka left overs).  So, I gave the two bottom pieces a quick sew and ruffle.  The top piece I used to help hide stitching of the other two.  For my center blossom, I had this paper blossom left over from a stacked piece that I took apart.  I added a thick rhinestone to the center, and then set the blossom in a bed of ruffled cream tulle.  I hot glued this piece to the canvas tag.  I put an ice pink pearl brad from Kaiser Craft toward the bottom right of the blossom.  I added a vintage brad to the top left of the blossom.  I felt that the repeat of the circles help ground the center blossom piece.  I covered the eyelet hole on the canvas tag, with a multi-loop bow/button combo I made myself.  I started with a pale pink crinkled seam binding, and created a multi-loop bow.  I tied on a white/clear tiny vintage button to the center of the bow with cream twine, and created a bow just under the button.  I adhered this piece with hot glue in the eyelet hole, on the canvas tag.  

For my sentiment, I stamped and heat embossed in silver this beautiful font: Thinking of you, onto a scrap piece of vellum card stock.  I created the same flag end to this banner.  I weaved it thru the ends of the pattern paper piece.  And finally, I added a simple staple to the right end of it.  I didn't want this card to be too specific.  And wouldn't it be wonderful to receive a hand-made card in your snail mail box?  To finish the card, I add a pair of marshmallow sequins to the top left of the banner piece, and a trio of the marshmallow sequins to the lower right of the banner piece.

Love Birds, Card

I love to paper craft {smile}.  And I sometimes love a challenge.  A very dear, and special lady had asked me to make her a Black & White & Blue wedding card.  But she didn't have any other requests.  Wow, creative freedom!  She must know a few artists {smile}  

I like choices.  And I assume everyone else does too.  So, I made her a few cards to choice from.  I posted one yesterday, and I have one more today.  So, lets get started!

To help me focus on the task at hand, I stopped by a new favorite challenge site:  Friday Mashup.  This week's challenge over @ Friday Mashup, they have both a sketch, and a theme (Up and Away).  I didn't get that creative and incorporate a hot air balloon.  {frown}  In my defense, I was looking for a sketch and not a theme.  I have a theme wedding.  And now, I am kicking myself, I think I could have done a wedding hot air balloon.  And this is New Mexico, we host the world's largest hot air balloon mass ascension.  Hind sight, right?  Let's see the sketch:

and here is what I made:

This special occasion greeting card is a large card for me {smile}.  The finished card size is 4 1/2" x 6 1/2", and has an accompanying envelope for a 5" x 7" card.  I wanted to make sure that my embellished card would fit inside, without mashing any of the embellishments.  

Recipe:  The card base is Pure Black by Paper Trey Ink.  Love their heavy weight card stock.  

The blue matt is Island Indigo card stock by Stampin' Up!.  I used Authentique pattern papers, Classique and Spirited.  I used the tone on tone blue pattern paper.  I wanted blue, but not a specific pattern.  The black doily pattern gives interest without competing with the focal piece.  To help convey a home-made touch, I added a simple machine stitch border.

I used a wide white crochet trim and a pale blue velvet ribbon.  I just love how soft and classy these two trims looked together.   This main panel is adhered to the card front with foam tape to allow space for the crochet trim and velvet trim room to wrap around the card front.

The focal image is actually one of those journalling blocks from the Classique collection.  I selected one with no quote or busy graphics.  I hand stamped my sentiment, in Jet Black StazOn.  I used two different stamp sets, but love how the fonts really work together.  For the journal block: Fancy Flexible Phrases.  For the sentiment banner piece: Teeny Tiny Wishes.  Both of these stamp sets are from Stampin' Up!

Focal Piece:  I cut down a 3" x 4" journal block.  Rounded the corners and adhered to a scrap piece of pure black card stock.  I stamped my sentiment, with my fingers crossed.  I adhered a bird cage metal embellishment from Spare Parts.  I added a large blue blossom above and just left to the top of the bird cage.  I added a scrap piece of cream lace trim to the 'bare' side of this blossom.

For the two white and two blue blossoms flanking the large blue blossom, I first added some white acrylic paint to the petal tips, and then immediately dunked them into a tub of dazzling diamond glitter.  I added several leaf sprays cut from black tone on tone pattern paper from the Classique collection.  I adhered this piece with foam tape to help lift it off the card front, and to allow for the height of the trims.

Finishing touches:  I wanted to add some classic and sparkling touches.  So, to finish the focal piece, I added two pearl string loops.  And then to continue with the classic pearl touch, I added a spare black pearl flourish piece to opposite corners of the card.  And finally, for the sparkling touch, I added a collection of blue faceted sequins in the same opposite corners.

This card is also finished on the inside.  I have a white panel matted with a piece of the Island Indigo card stock.

Baby Girl Cube

Welcome!  I hope you are enjoying your weekend!  I am!  I had my first arts and craft fair yesterday @ Grace Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and boy was it a good time!  I met a lot of super nice folks and I had the chance to chat with a few return shoppers and friends!  YAHOO!  what a great day!  

I sold out of a few crafts, so today, I am back in my craft room.  My task (originally) was to finish some baptism cards.  I picked up some metal cross charms, to get those on the cards, and well, my crafting took a different turn!  I started distressing some paper flowers, which lead me to a wooden block I had been working on.  And my focus went elsewhere! If you are a fellow crafter, you know you can get side tracked.  (I don't force myself to craft something I just don't have the mojo for, because it never turns out right. So, I typically work on something else, or take a break to change my focus.)  And well, my original task turned into this!

Ok, here are the details!  Everything I used to make this decorative piece is from my stash.  My husband refers to my stash as a 'store'.  But, he really means 'collection'.  {smile}  I painted the wooden block with gesso and then white paint.  I sanded the block to make sure it was sooth.  I also knocked off the tips, so it would have rounded corners.  I think it adds a worn look.  I adhered the pattern papers to each side and sealed them with Mod Podge.  Yes, the bottom of the block is also finished.  The papers are from Teresa Collins, Authentique, and My Mind's Eye; scraps in my stash.

I used white, and pink pirouette seam binding, along with crochet trim from Stampin' Up! to make my shabby bow.  

The drawer pull is from the hardware section of a big box craft store.  Yeah, I had a different project in mind when I made this purchase almost 2 years ago.  (told you I hoard collect) {smile}  

The acrylic pacifier is from a craft show that my daughter and I attended 9 years ago.  We originally purchased the pacifiers for baby shower party favors, when she was expecting her first child.  But never used them, because we just couldn't get them to work.  The silver bakers twine is from Stampin' Up!.  The clay rose I made with white sparkle clay and a mold I purchased earlier this summer.

The push pin is from Maya Road.  The beads are a collection from the jewelry section of any big box craft store: crystal bead, pearl, and rhinestone spacer.

The fabric tags I purchased almost 7/+ years ago, when that was all the rage.  I keep a lot of old retired stuff.  That's one of the ways that my crafts are unique, and very personable.  You can't simply go out and copy them exactly, or mass produce them.

The pink brad with the fabric tag, is retired from Stampin' Up! (3/+ years).  I simply cut the legs off and used hot glue to glue it on.  

The acrylic sentiment piece was purchased from a big box craft store a few years ago, too.  I originally purchased the set with a different craft in mind, too.  Oh boy, I think I see a pattern!  Yikes!

The only hand stamping on this little cutie, is the tags.  I used a retired stamp set from Stampin' Up! and a mini stamp set from Paper Trey Ink.  I used the jewelry punch from Stampin' Up! (yeah, retired) to create the tag shape.

So, look for this at my next craft fair on November 14th and 15th @ Tramway Community Church Holiday Craft Fair, in Albuquerque, New Mexico!

 I used some sweet, country charm pattern paper to create an unique gift card.  I used some of the same elements when creating the altered spiral notebook.  I did add some machine zig zag stitching to this small gift card, and a small vintage button.

I altered the front of a spiral notebook.  I took some gorgeous vintage-y pattern paper from Authentique.  I added some coordinating tags and paper embellishments.  I added some white resin architecture pieces, a resin blossom, a hand-made paper blossom, a hand cut mannequin, and a large white satin ribbon.  There is a pink polka dot ribbon book mark that is attached to the top spiral.

about the only half decent photo of the gift card.  I wanted to keep with the blue and white color theme.  I added two different, but I believe coordinating digital paper.  I added a neutral polka dot pattern piece of digital pattern paper, and topped it off with a digital collage pattern paper for the gift card front.  I added a metal rimmed circular tag with a pearl brad.  To help add another metal accent, to add a crisp element, I stapled a piece of crochet trim and seam binding to the left side of the sentiment banner piece.

I truly enjoy crafting these little cuties!  I took an over-the-top rhinestone and pearl mini photo frame (2" x 2" square) and transformed it, into a pin cushion photo frame.  Yeah, it is functional, but it is intended for decorative purposes.  I added two different stacks of button pairs.  I stuck them into the pin cushion with a tiny vintage safety pin and a butterfly stick pin.  I thought that the mix of these two pieces added an unique farmland/country charm.  To help add some glam, I added a rhinestone-pearl stick pin.  My original thought for this is to hold a ring while doing dishes (kitchen accent), or washing hands (master bath charm).

I selected a fabric that is sweet, and sorta neutral.  I know it has some hard blues, but I think that the small pattern helps hide the boldness {smile}.
