Fast Time and Thanks

Howdy!  As some of you may know, I have started running again this year.  I have also started exercising and eating better.  Yeah, a New Year's Resolution.  I'm not incredibly over weight, but I'm not happy with my weight.  So, I decided that I needed to do something about it.  I joined a gym, lost 13pounds.  Not crazy.  I also learned what to eat for a healthy diet, a clean diet, and what foods actually make me feel better.  

My New Year's Resolution was for my happiness.  I have had several rough years at work.  To the point that I thought about quitting every single day.  But, I'm stubborn.  So, I decided, that I needed to do something for me, for my sanity.  And I am super happy I did.  {smile}  

Anyways, back to what I started with: running again this year.  I did a quick and 'dirty' training (6 weeks) for my first half marathon this year - May 1.  Not the greatest time, but one I am happy with.  {smile}  Well, that whole experience has only made me hungry to train harder, run faster, and feel better at my post runs.  So, I signed up for the local Summer Race Series, in Albuquerque.  I did a charity run this past Saturday - Polly's Run.  A quick pace, a quick distance.  5K [3.1 miles @ 36 minutes (11:16 min/mile)]  I also did this race with my bestie - Nichole B.  She has supported me and my 'pacing' since we started running, and I wanted to say 'Thank You'  to her for her enduring support this past Saturday.  So, I made her a card.  She is also a fellow crafter, so she can appreciate the effort and work that goes into making a card.

I stopped by Mojo Monday to use their current sketch, and get my creativity flowing.

here is what I created:

Recipe:  I created a A2 size card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2")  I used Bashful Blue card stock (retired) by Stampin' Up! for the card base, and the matt.  The navy blue and floral pattern papers are from the same collection: Think To Remember collection by Photo Play Paper Co.

I wrapped a white doily around the upper left corner of the main panel.  The sentiment is from the water color trio stamp set (retired) by Stampin' Up!  I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap piece of white card stock.  I hand cut the flag end.  I adhered the sentiment banner with a single staple.  I tied a triple loop bow with pale blue crinkled seam binding and adhered the bow over the staple.  To add a little sparkle, I added a trio of silver sequins.

Clean.  Simple (for me).  And beautiful.  Just like my bestie!  I hope you find some inspiration and play along with the current sketch challenge from Mojo Monday its 'contest' week!

Pretty Heart, gift card holder

Howdy!  Welcome!  I just can't get enough of this Polka Dot Party pattern paper, from American Crafts.  It is just so pretty and very easy to work with!  I didn't want to keep cutting my large left over pieces, so I have made a few gift card holders out of the little scraps {smile}  I guess I am really embracing this 'use what you have' mantra I have been chanting {smile}.

To help with some direction/inspiration, I headed over to a 'new to me' challenge blog:  Cupcake Inspiration.  Now, for those who know me, I imagine you aren't surprised that I have stumbled upon this challenge site.  And you are probably more surprised that I haven't found it earlier {smile}.  And if you don't know me, I love cupcakes.  So much so, that I have considered owning/operating my own cupcake food truck {smile}.

Ok, back to the task at hand.  The Cupcake Inspiration challenge site, is celebrating their 300th challenge!  How fabulous is that?  And their challenge is:  Sparkle!

Sparkle!  I can do sparkle!  Rhinestones and sequins sparkle!  

and I love the color of the frosting! a nice aqua blue!

inside the gift card holder, the sentiment is heat embossed:

Recipe:  The solid card stocks are Crisp Cantaloupe and Coastal Cabana, from Stampin' Up! The pattern papers are from the Polka Dot Party collection, by American Crafts.

The sentiments on the front of the card holders are stamped in grey classic ink, onto whisper white card stock.  The stamp set is retired, Water Color Trio.  I also used a retired die to cut the decorative labels.  All of which are from Stampin' Up!  These decorative labels have been adhered to the front of the gift card holders with foam tape.

The sentiment inside the gift card holders is from CTMH.  I actually received this stamp as a 'thank you' gift from my CTMH consultant. {smile}  I stamped the sentiment in versa mark ink, added silver embossing powder, and heat embossed.  I think the raised lettering adds some pizzazz and sparkle.

I used my small pattern paper scrap pieces to decorate these two gift card holders.  I am saving my larger scraps for a card-box combo.  I should be able to finish this project tomorrow or so.  Don't fret, I will post some photos here {smile}.

I added some crinkled seam binding, that I tied into multi-loop bows.  The bows are attached to the front of the holders with brads: rhinestone and pearl.

Happy Birthday

Welcome.  I hope you had a great weekend.  Me, I spent my time with 4 of my grandchildren.  They are such a great group!  They make me smile and incredibly happy.

I came home in the afternoon on Sunday.  Just in time to make a special birthday card, and a special order of cupcakes {smile}.   So, I set out to my craft room, and my kitchen.  This card is for a special lady that I work with.  This is the same lady who found the recipe for these cupcakes.  What a perfect pair.  To get started, I am playing along with the lovely ladies over @ Sugar Creek Hollow.  Their challenge is called, 'Word Play', they want you to include a sentiment on the paper craft.

I used a scrap piece of my Forget Me Not pattern paper from Poland.  (Lemon Crafts)  I also downsized a digital image to 75% scale.  And then added my own little touches {smile}.

I wrapped a piece of crochet trim around the main pattern paper piece.  I then tied a simply bow.  I matted my downsized digital image onto a piece of texture white card stock.  

I sponged blushing bride classic ink onto a white paper blossom.  I added some dazzling diamond glitter to the petal tips.  I also adhered a trio of buttons to the card front.

For the sentiment, I hand-stamped the Birthday Wishes in basic black classic ink, onto whisper white card stock.  I hand-cut the flag end, and then matted it with a scap piece of soft sky card stock.  I did adhere it to the card front, but really wanted to add some machine stitching.  So, I ran it through three times {smile}.

The card remains blank on the inside.  I did add a note written on a post-it.  That way, if she needs a last minute birthday card, she has one.  I did stamp the envelope flap with my brand.

Ok, now for the cupcakes she wanted me to make:

These are Rolo inspired cupcakes.  The cake is a rich chocolate cake.  I then whipped up some salted caramel buttercream frosting.  And finally, topped the cupcakes with a chocolate granache.  Now, I'm not a fan with the way this chocolate 'sauce' came out.  But, I wanted to follow the recipe for my friend.  I am a huge fan of my granache recipe.  Anyways, I hope she likes her card and her cupcakes!

Happy Tuesday, I hope this post finds you well, and able to craft today {smile}.  I made a card today, for a very special new friend.  I met her over the weekend, and let's just say we are 'birds of a feather' {smile}.  These folks are very rare and very special.  

Anyways, I wanted to make a special card for this lady.  She opened her home to a few of us, to sell our 'not recently used' craft supplies.  She didn't ask for contributions or a fee.  Just out of the goodness of her heart.  That is really awesome!  I don't know too many folks who would do that.  In reality, I only know a very few who would.  So, my hat is off to you!

I headed right to an old favorite sketch challenge site:  Mojo Monday.  Mojo Monday has some very creative sketches, and they don't have restrictions of products.  This makes it 10 times easier to use what you have on hand.  Here is this weeks' sketch:

And here is what I did!  

I started with kraft card stock from Paper Trey Ink.  Love the heavy weight of it.  I used pattern papers from Prima Marketing: Madeline 6" x 6" stack.  yeah, it is probably 3years retired.  But, I just love the colors and graphics.  Also, I don't typically buy 6" x 6" stacks.  [I only have about 7, that is in comparison to having 4 (yeah, 4) 12" x 12" paper towers.]

I did a simple machine stitching all away around the first layer.  I purposefully did the 'not so straight' stitching.  I think it adds a 'homemade' feel to the card.  I then layered different but coordinating pattern papers (from the same paper stack) to the card front.  I used my Tasteful Trims die from Stampin' Up! to create the scallop border.  

The sentiment banner is made from very vanilla card stock by Stampin' Up!  The sentiment is stamped in Chocolate Chip classic ink, by Stampin' Up!.  The stamp set is Water Color Trio.  Yeah, it is probably 5 years retired.  Some crafting supplies are just too fabulous to get rid of.  

All of the edges of each cardstock/paper was sponged with crumb cake classic ink, by Stampin' Up! to help define their borders.

The seam binding is Pool Party, by Stampin' Up!.  The blossom is from Prima Marketing, I believe.  I took off the center of the blossom and added a pale green half pearl.  [I kept the center of the blossom incase I need a tiny flower.]

As with 98% of my cards, I have left the inside blank.  I add a handwritten note to the inside.  That way, if the recipient needs a card, they have one on hand.  {smile}

Text, Flowers, and Buttons

Oh my.   What a busy weekend.  Let me start by saying that my two passions in life are paper crafting and baking.  Both of these activities give me joy.   P u r e   j o y!  

I just love creating.  Creating beautiful things of the eye, heart and soul.  And beautiful things for the palate, tongue and stomach.

Sunday, I participated in a baking competition @ the Chocolate and Coffee Fest here in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I made a dark chocolate cupcake, spiced with cinnamon and cayenne pepper, dunked in dark chocolate ganache, topped with a sweet cinnamon whipped topping, and drizzled with dark chocolate ganache.  I didn't win. {frown}  And I didn't remember to take a photograph of my cupcakes.  {double frown}

Today, however, I want to share a paper craft project I made as the Guest Designer for the Shabby Tea Room, this week.  I know, how wonderful to be a guest designer, right?  This week, we are asked to make a paper craft item, using the inspirational photo and required products:  text, flowers, and buttons.  I got this!

and here is what I made:

We (the family) were celebrating our mother's birthday this past weekend.  (yes, in conjunction with my baking competition.)  Our mother turned 70 on her birthday.  And that fact alone makes me feel super old.  Ok so back to the paper crafts I created.

Let's start with the card.  I used crumb cake card stock for the card base.  I matted the pattern paper onto very vanilla card stock.  I then ran this stack of card stock and pattern paper thru my sewing machine.  I just love this touch.  I used a running stitch.   

The decorative shape of text paper is from Melissa Frances.  I wrapped a piece of white lace trim around this text pattern paper.  I topped the lace trim with a kraft polka dot ribbon.  I added two white buttons to the ribbon, and then tied a kraft button to the bow with cream twine.  I added a small tag that was stamped and cut from very vanilla card stock.

I added a piece of floral grid paper on top of the text paper.  I just love the curves of this shape.  I added three paper blossoms to the left side of the blossom grid paper.   I cut leaf shapes from a different text paper.  I added a hand-made white glitter button to the left side of the large pink paper blossom.  

I stamped my sentiment in soft suede classic ink, using a stamp from the Water Color Trio stamp set.  I added a silver glitter butterfly, to add some sparkle.  For the final touch, I added a trio of cream diamond cut pearls.  I added the same decorative pearls for the body of the butterfly.

and the bag:

I used the same patterns of papers and the same shapes.  However, I changed the paper blossoms.  I used a cream large paper blossom.  The two smaller paper blossoms were white.  However, I wanted to change the color.  So, I sprayed the paper blossoms and then added glitter.  I also added a hand-made white glitter clay button to the left side of the cream paper blossom.  

I added a trio of silver glitter butterflies.  I added the same decorative cut pearls to the bodies of the butterflies and then a trio near the sentiment piece.  I also added a Maya Road butterfly pin to the trio of paper blossoms.

Finally, I added a 'made with love' banner to the bottom of the bag.

The bag is held closed with a painted and glittered clothes pin and tied with a wide kraft polka dot ribbon.  Inside the bag is a jar of home-made, rough-cut, vanilla-sugar cubes.

Birthday Wishes, Friend

Welcome.  Glad you have a chance to stop by.  I have been busy this week, working on a recipe for a local baking contest (Sunday).  But I also had a chance to craft a Birthday card for a special friend.  

I used some new paper I received in the mail a few weeks ago.  The paper is called Vintage Bliss.  Ok, doesn't it just sound wonderful?

I did a little machine stitching, using my new favorite silver metallic thread.  Mostly a straight stitch, but I added a little zig zag stitching to add some interest.  I just love this text paper with floral images.  And I have a weakness for the pink polka dot paper and the multi-colored criss cross pattern paper, too {smile}.

I added some Lemon Whip satin ribbon, and added some machine stitching to that too!  I added a half doily under the satin ribbon.  I stamped the sentiment 'Birthday wishes' in a light grey classic ink.  I added a trio of half pearls under the sentiment.

The prize ribbon piece is actually a sticker.  It says, 'H is for Happy'.  I felt it needed something more, but I just couldn't figure out what.???

I made some home-made vanilla sugar cubes the other day.  I know.  How crazy, huh?  Well, I love to make, create, and cook.  What I figured what the heck?

I packaged some of these rough cut sugar cubes into a small craft bag and added a little decorations:

I folded a paper doily over the top edge and created two banner pieces from the same pattern paper.  For the sentiment I used the For a Friend Occasion stamp set by CTMH.  I stamped the 'MADE WITH LOVE' banner in crumb cake classic ink, and grey classic ink, then I fussy cut it out by hand.  I used Shell satin ribbon and added a sparkle clay button I made.

Thank you for looking.  {smile}  I'm pretty sure that my girl friend will love her gift.  She is a big tea drinker, so that was my direction in the gift. 

Shabby Heart

Welcome.  I had a good time yesterday selling my hand-made paper crafts at the Spring Craft Fair, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I met many nice ladies who liked my crafts and bought a few items.  Thank you for your support and words of encouragement {smile}.  I am working on getting things lined up for two more craft fairs in May.  So stay tuned for those announcements!

I hope your weekend is enjoyable and that you get to do the things that make you happy.  For me, that's playing in my craft room {smile}.  

If you are like me, you have your favorite web places to visit.  Stop, look, be inspired, but generally don't 'play along' for whatever reason.  Today, I did stop, look, get inspired, and then did 'play along' {smile}.  I think I should have some bonus points, somewhere.  Right?

One of the blog challenge sites that I like to stalk visit is Sugar Creek Hollow.  They are a vintage and shabby chic challenge blog.  I think I should live there.  Anyways, they have a photo inspiration challenge this time (2 weeks).  Here is their inspiration photo:

use the colors or theme or both

Ok, how gorgeous is this photo?  Pinks, cream, white washed, green, vintage lace, a crystal chandelier, soft fabrics - oh my!

I made a covered notepad!  

The narrow pad of paper is from Paper Trey Ink.  It's a narrow pad of 25 pages of lined-paper.  The perfect little pad for jotting down grocery lists,  to-do lists, shopping lists, chores, any list!

I covered the note pad with blushing bride card stock (retired from Stampin' Up!).  Then I matted the pattern papers onto a piece of very vanilla card stock.  For the pattern papers I used a scrap piece of Lost & Found 2 pink and white criss cross-pattern paper, and a digital pattern paper for the bottom half.  I machine stitched both pattern papers together.  I thought it really added a home-made touch.  I covered the seam with a scallop trimmed piece of silver glitter paper from Stampin' Up! and a scrap piece of this beautifully gathered cream ribbon (retired Stampin' Up!).

For the 'label' I stamped the polka dot frame in Pear Pizzaz classic ink, and the used the Four Frames stamp set, both are from Stampin' Up!.  I have to say that I just love this label-style stamp set.  It is very versatile and the open oval is a nice size for most sentiments to fit.

I stamped the inside of the framed label with another Stampin' Up! stamp set: Water-Color Trio.  But this one is retired.  I just love the font used in this sentiment: FROM THE Heart.  Beautiful.  I 'lifted'  the label off the cover with foam adhesive.

I punched both the heart and the flower pieces from hand punches: Trio of hearts, and Boho Blossom (both retired punches from Stampin' Up!)  The heart shape is from silver glitter paper.  I wanted to repeat the same elements so it looks like these pieces belong.  The flower shape is cut from a text paper.  I added a pink vintage button and tied it with some cream twine.

I wanted to add a little more shabby-ness.  So I added a trio of half pearls to the bottom right corner.  I just love how delicate and sweet these little half pearls look {smile}.

I also wanted the notepad to be versatile.  So, I decorated a simple paper clap with a scrap piece of the pink and white criss cross pattern paper from Lost & Found 2, that I used on the top portion of the pad.  I tied a piece of crochet trim to the clap.

The clap holds the notepad closed if I need to throw the pad in a bag/tote.  And it also allows me to hang the pad from a message board, if I move the clamp to the top of the pad.  Very functional, and very sweet!

Box Set #129

The weather here, this weekend, is warm and sunny!  It's a great change from snow and cold winds.  It gave me a chance to run some errands, and not wear a jacket or close toe shoes.  It is a t-shirt and flip flop weekend!

So, with the change of weather, I decided to change it up a bit.  The talented ladies over @ Just Us GirlS, have a great challenge this week: make a boxed note card set, with choose your own sentiment tags.  Now, doesn't that sound fun and creative?  And why not change it  up a bit!  So, I went shopping.  I did some looking through the paper crafting products at home, and then went to a local paper craft store, to see what I could purchase for about $5 that would help me complete this challenge.

If you have seen the videos and sneak peaks of CHA 2012, you have probably falling love with some gorgeous new products out there.  I knew what I was looking for, but I always keep my options open.  

I have my products picked out, some new pattern papers from Prima, and some gorgeous dimensional 'ribbon'.    But now I need a sketch to help me put these products together and look great.  So, I headed over to i {heart} 2 stamp and fell in love with this months sketch.  The sketch let me really show off the great graphics in these new Prima papers and that gorgeous new 'ribbon' I purchased.  I used two different pattern papers for the black and grey rectangles.  As for the circle, I used a butterfly shape.  The white rectangle was replaced with a tag.  The long grey rectangle, is where I added a strip of cream lace.  As for my sentiment tags, I actually stamped 5 different sentiments twice, and added foam tape to the backs, so all you need to do is adhere the sentiment circle to the text circle on top of the white doily tag.

Here is my box set:  

This box set contains 6 cards.  The cards are similar, but not exact.  The tags are all different and the white doily tags have three different designs.  But other than that, they are all the same.  With this box set, I have included two sheets of the sentiment circles: Here for You, for you, Heartfelt Thanks, thinking of you, Birthday wishes.  I used my butterfly die to cut those butterflies out of the gorgeous petal ribbon.  I used white bakers twine, when I hand sewn the kraft buttons onto the butterfly bodies.  I used my hot glue gun to adhere the butterflies to the card fronts.  The cards remain blank inside, so you can add your own hand-written message.

Birthday Wishes @ Creative Sketches

Hello,  fellow paper crafters!  And welcome to my blog.  I am on the design team for a challenge site called Creative Sketches.  They host a different challenge each week.  And this week's challenge is a sketch challenge.

Here is the sketch:

We would love for you to play along with us!  You don't have to use any particular paper crafting supplies or specific paper company.  We urge you to use what you have.  These economic times are already difficult.  So, use what you have on hand.  Mix and match.  Be creative.  Let your inner artist take charge.  Use this time to escape and create something beautiful and uniquely YOU!

Here is my card:

I used Stampin' Up! products for this card.  The card base is chocolate chip.  (I know, it looks like Bravo Burgundy, but it's not.)  The pink layer is Pink Pirouette card stock.  I stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock and did a thin matt of Crumb Cake card stock.  I stamped the flower in Basic Brown. classic ink I used both blender pen and chalks to color this pretty image.  I added some white dots and colored the flower center white with a white gel pen.  I stamped the sentiment in Soft Suede classic ink.  I stamped the scratched background in Sahara Sand classic ink.  I had a scrap piece of off white felted wool, so I used the beautiful butterfly embosslit and cut out a small butterfly.  I added a faux half-pearl as its body and adhered the butterfly to the card front with a glue dot.  

I'm pretty sure this card would not need more than a general postage stamp.  The card itself is pretty flat, with just a tiny bump created by the butterfly.

The Wonder of Weaving @ OCC

Jen, from Our Change of Art, is our hostess this week @ Our Creative Corner challenge blog.  Jen, has challenged us, to add some type of weaving to our card/project.  I tell ya, these girls are super creative! and they challenge me every week.  So, here is what I came up with:

I wanted to use some 'different' colors this time.  Alot of folks are using pinks, and yellows, and bright colors.  I guess everyone is pretty tired of the snow and cold weather.  Anyways, I chose a neutral color palette.  The black and cream pattern paper is a scrap, but I think its a paper studio piece, from one of those big box craft stores.  The rest of the supplies are from Stampin' Up!: 

Stamp set:  Water Color Trio

Cardstock: Basic Black, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, and Old Olive. and First Edition DSP.

Classic Ink: Basic Black, Marina Mist, and Old Olive

Tools: leaves die, beautiful wings die, top note die,  2 step bird punch, scallop circle punch, and the 1 1/4" circle punch.

I used a shaped die to cut-out the 'window', which was placed crooked on purpose (but now you can't see).  I then punched out some leaves, and put them into the weaved lattice I made with strips of Very Vanilla card stock.  I punched my flowers out with the scallop circle punch and circle punch, and rolled the flowers.  I sponged the tips of the 'petals' with Old Olive classic ink.  I was going to use a pink color, but then I changed my mind, and decided to go with the green.  I added some half pearl jewels to the center of the flowers.   I used a stylus to create the 'vein' in the leaves. (those didn't photograph very well.)  I sponged some Marina Mist classic ink on the wings of the butterflies to give them definition.   Here is a close-up of my weaved card stock pieces:

Sunday Card Club - Big Shot Galore

Here are the two cards we made today in our Sunday card club. We used the Big Shot on just about everything!

#1 - for the card on the right we used the Daisey die to cut out the flowers and deboss them on watercolor paper. Yeah, we made our own letter press plates, how fun! We used a sponge dauber to ink the center of the daises. We used the Tiny Tags stamp set and the Medium Jewelry tag to create the hanging tags.This was a fun and quick card.

#2 - for the card on the left, we used the Big Shot for just about everything! Here is the only part that is not created with the Big shot: to start, we stamped polka dots on the blue panel and used the scallop border punch to give it a decorative edge. For the white panel, we wheeled the Music Notes in Sahara sand classic ink, and sponged the white panel with blushing bride classic ink. The butterfly was made with felted wool placed inside the butterfly emboss lit. To make the heart, we first put the card stock in the lattice embossing folder and the heart shape was created with the heart die. The tag was cut using the lots of tags die set. The little dog is actually a page out of a child's book, and 'color'ed with blender pens. (I purchased the book used for $2, at a local book store.) I made the scallop rectangle shape using the new clear die. The flower was made using the smallest circle from the circle #2 die. I used some material from some fat quarters I purchased at a local fabric store. I used the new half pearls from Stampin' Up! to create the body of the butterfly, and the center of the 'flower'. The ribbon is one of the new twill ribbons from Stampin' Up!

Simply 'Happy Mother's Day!'

I was playing around with my Watercolor Trio stamp set, getting ready for my Open House today, and made this wondrerfully simple card. I used my markers to 'color' the stamp, mist with water and stamped on my cardstock. I didn't want my greeting to be too dark, so I inked my stamp with Close to Cocoa classic ink. I liked the way this simple, yet pretty card turned out.

These are the cards you will make at my Open House on Saturday, May 8th. Please arrive between 12 noon and 3p, so you will have plenty of time to finish, and visit. I have two different cards, both with different techniques on purpose.

The first card, uses 4 different techniques, with a host of different products. I wanted a card that used alot of product and many different techniques.

The second card is a minimalist card - quick and easy. One layer, uses one stamp set & markers.

There is a supply fee of $5 to attend. Come out, make some cards, and see the new Stampin' Up! products in the Summer Mini catalog. You will use both clear mount and wood mount stamps, a stencil, some Smooch sprays, meet some wonderful ladies who like to paper craft, and be eligible to win a door prize!

Can't make it? Purchase a kit! Kits come with all the card stock cut and scored, along with any embellishments, a supply list, and complete instructions (including color photos). Don't live in Albuquerque, there is a $5 shipping fee.
